Daniel Stephenson wanted the Sharks to join him to solve a common pain point for caulking contractors using The Caulking Finger product in Shark Tank Season 18, Episode 1.

Kevin Oโ€™Leary was amused by the presentation. After holding the product, he came up with a facetious remark: โ€œDaniel, you basically came here and gave the Sharks the finger!โ€

MrBeast ended up securing the deal by giving Daniel an offer he couldnโ€™t refuse.

Daniel Stephenson is a veteran painting contractor with over three decades of experience. The idea of developing his product came from a practical problem he encountered on the job after his finger got badly cut and sore while caulking houses.

Product Overview

The Caulking Finger is a Columbia, Alabama-based tool for professional and individual use that helps prevent scrapes, cuts and soreness in the fingers while caulking.

The reusable product, priced at $9.99, is first dipped in water before use. After caulking, it is dipped in water again to remove any leftover adhesive.

It is also available in a two-pack and a six-pack contractor bundle priced at $17.99 and $50.99, respectively.

The business operates as a โ€œFaith Will Move Mountainsโ€ (FWMM) product in Monticello, a reference to Stephensonโ€™s Christian faith.

The Caulking Finger Shark Tank Pitch

Daniel Stephenson came to Shark Tank seeking $50,000 for 10% equity in his company.ย

The Sharks were not only impressed with the product but also entertained by his Southern charm and enthusiasm.

The construction veteran began the pitch by sharing the importance of caulking in sealing cracks in the interior and exterior of homes to prevent water damage and keep bugs out.

Daniel shared a common problem he encountered while performing caulking using bare fingers.ย

After demanding caulking work and dealing with scrapes, cuts and splinters on his fingers, he decided to develop a finger-shaped tool that would ease the burden.ย

Initially, the Sharks were entertained by the productโ€™s shape, utility and Danielโ€™s presentation.ย

After hearing about the entrepreneurโ€™s grit and resourcefulness to continue promoting the product through social media even after his business partner passed away, the Sharks were impressed.

What Makes The Caulking Finger Unique?

The Caulking Finger is designed as a handy tool to perform caulking without risking a finger injury.

  • Prevents injury: The Caulking Finger is a simple tool to use instead of bare fingers to perform caulking. Professionals who do the work for hours can prevent finger injuries caused by caulking manually on rough edges of a houseโ€™s interior and exterior.
  • Made to feel like a finger: Daniel invested $279,000 of his money to develop this product and make it feel like an actual finger. The company also has three utility patents and a design patent.
  • Multi-purpose use: This product is not just limited to caulking but is also used for pottery and other activities that require finger dexterity.

Did The Caulking Finger Get a Deal on Shark Tank?

After hearing the lifetime sales of about $100,000, Lori Greiner said the product didnโ€™t feel explosive enough for investment, and decided to go out.

However, Daniel Lubetzky chimed in with an offer of $50,000 for 20% of the company, contingent on another Shark joining the deal.

Before anyone could come on board, MrBeast interrupted the deal discussion by offering to invest $50,000 for 0% equity because he was inspired by the entrepreneurโ€™s effort and ambition.

MrBeast gave the entrepreneur $50,000 for no equity in his company, all because he liked the entrepreneurโ€™s drive and personality.

Without a second thought, Daniel Stephenson accepted MrBeastโ€™s generous offer and expressed his happiness by saying he felt like a โ€œhot hog in a cool puddle of mud.โ€
