Carey previously built and sold a chain of restaurants, while Ryan Kutscher ran his own advertising agency. Together, the longtime friends saw an opportunity to create a beer that dads could enjoy and have fun without worrying about heavy hangovers.
The founders of Dad Strength Brewing did something unique and unusual by mixing non-alcoholic beers and regular beers in the same bottle to make their own ABV brews. Their aim is to reduce the hangover after they sip a regular brew because, for the busy dads, high ABV beers can make the next day tough.
Hence, the two buddies reached out to the World Beer Cup gold medal-winning brewer, Justine V. Corey, and his gang helped them craft a beer with 2.9% ABV over the course of one year. It is America’s first low-ABV craft brewer. So, the five-beer Fridays are back for the new dads so they don’t catch a little hangover.
The brand Dad Strength Brewing craft beers have just 94 calories per can and come in three flavors. Sharks tested all the flavors, including the West Coast IPA, Juicy IPA, and Hazy IPA, which is soon to be released. All the Sharks loved the crafted beers and were curious to know about the sales.
Dad Strength Brewing Shark Tank Pitch
Craig and Ryan took the stage and asked for $250,000 for 5% of equity in their brand. Robert Herjavec asked the founders about the sales of West Coast IPA and Juicy IPA. Ryan clarified by mentioning the sales, which were $230,000 in ten and a half months. For almost a year, their brand has been restricted to just one market.
Craig took the plunge to explain their revenue-generating stream. After a year of product development, they were allowed to self-distribute, so they loaded Ryan’s truck and started selling in Washington, D.C., though they did it strategically and took the data and numbers.
In November, they were selling at Whole Foods. The next big thing is in December, when the brand entered Trader Joe’s, followed by Giant in January and Safeway in February. Sharks were left stunned by listening to the organic growth of Dad Strength Brewing. Kevin O’Leary asked about the sell-through rate, and the chain’s rebuy rate is 100% at present.
Did Dad Strength Brewing Get A Deal On Shark Tank?
Rashaun Williams was very impressed and perked up by the idea of craft beers. According to the founders, there is no competition in the craft beer space, so there isn’t any 2% ABV. Sharks were curious and wanted to know the reason behind a valuation of $5 million. The founders came asking for $250,000 for 5% equity.
Craig clarified that this was a 500-case week. Ryan, the co-founder, further responded that in the year 2025, they are projected to make a revenue of $500K. Kevin O’Leary offered a deal to the founders wherein he was ready to give $250,000 for 33%. The founders refused the offer as the stakes were way higher. However, Kendra Scott remained out of it and did not make an offer.
Rashaun Williams offered $250,000 for 10% equity and asked if any other Shark could join him. Hence,Robert Herjavec joined hands with Rashaun, and they will split 10% between them. After the discussion between Lori Greiner, Robert, and Rashaun, they decided to offer $300,000 for 15%,which means 300 grand from each Shark.
Ryan and Craig came up with a counter of $300,000 for 12%, which means 4% equity each shark. Thus, the deal was locked at the same.
