Heathers Choice: Revolutionizing Backcountry Dining

Heathers ChoiceIn the world of outdoor adventures, where the call of the wild meets the necessity of nourishment, Heathers Choice stands out as a beacon for those seeking quality, dehydrated meals. Founded by the resilient and adventure-driven Heather Kelly, the brand is set to make a splash on the entrepreneurial stage as Heather pitches her business on Shark Tank on January 12, 2024.

The Heathers Choice Philosophy

At Heathers Choice, the philosophy is simple but powerful: life is an adventure, and your meals should fuel that journey. Specializing in dehydrated meals and snacks, Heather’s Choice caters to the outdoor adventure market while prioritizing health and quality. The products, made with wholesome ingredients, promise to leave you energized, satiated, and ready for the challenges that lie ahead.

A Journey from Athlete to Entrepreneur

Heather Kelly’s journey to founding Heather’s Choice is as dynamic as the products she creates. A two-time NCAA National Champion in women’s rowing and a CRCA/Pocock All-American, Heather’s athletic background laid the foundation for her deep understanding of the importance of nutrition. With a degree in Evolutionary Nutrition and a certification in eating psychology coaching, she embarked on a mission to revolutionize the outdoor food industry.

A Unique Approach to Nutrition

Unlike traditional freeze-dried meals dominating the market, Heather’s Choice opts for a dehydrated process that preserves the integrity of each meal. The difference lies in the cooking method – Heather’s meals are prepared before dehydration, ensuring the rehydrated product tastes as delicious as a home-cooked meal. This sets Heathers Choice apart, creating a product that stands out not just in taste but also in nutritional value.

A Passion for Sustainable Sourcing

Heather’s commitment to sustainable sourcing is evident in every meal. Partnering with companies like Honest Bison, Heather ensures that her meals feature grass-fed bison and wild-caught Alaskan sockeye salmon. This not only elevates the nutritional value of the meals but also aligns with a commitment to ethical and environmentally friendly practices.

Heathers Choice Entrepreneurial Spirit

Heather Kelly’s entrepreneurial spirit was ignited by a personal need – a lack of suitable backcountry meals that met her dietary preferences. Fueled by a desire to create meals she would enjoy anywhere in the world, Heather experimented with her food dehydrator, discovering a unique and delicious approach to outdoor cuisine.

Challenges and Triumphs

Heather’s journey from conceptualizing the idea to launching Heather’s Choice wasn’t without its challenges. Producing a product, she found, was a monumental task that required resilience and dedication. However, Heather’s commitment to delivering a high-quality product that reflects her values of health, sustainability, and adventure has garnered widespread support from the backcountry community.

Heathers Choice isn’t just about dehydrated meals; it’s a testament to one woman’s determination to redefine outdoor dining. As Heather takes her innovative business to Shark Tank, we can only anticipate the positive impact her wholesome, packable meals will have on the outdoor adventure market. Heathers Choice is more than a brand; it’s a culinary companion for those who crave both nourishment and adventure on their journey through the wilderness.

My Take on Heathers Choice

In my teens through mid thirties, I was an avid backpacker. My idea of a good time was strapping a pack on my back and disappearing into the wilderness. I did use some freeze dried meals, but mac and cheese was a staple. I usually caught fish for meals. Brook trout was a staple meal while backpacking.

Heather’s meals look appetizing – certainly more so than the typical MRE’s available out there. They tend to be more expensive than freeze dried meals, but when you’re out in the woods, having good food – specifically protein (like brook trout) is very important. My back packing days are over, so I likely won’t be a customer, but I’ll let my son know about these products.

Do Sharks Like Dehydrated Food?

I don’t know about this one. This is a very niche market and there are some giant companies in this space. The Sharks tend to shy away from those types of products. I can’t see Mark, Kevi, Candace or Lori making an offer. I think Heather’s only hope is Daymond. He’s an avid outdoorsman and this could appeal to him on a personal level. Whether that translates to an offer remains to be seen, but Daymond is her only hope.
