Rebel Cheeses: A Plant-Powered Twist on Tradition

rebel cheeses

In the heart of artisanal cheese innovation, Rebel Cheeses stands as a beacon of culinary rebellion, challenging traditional norms with a delightful plant-powered twist. Founded by the dynamic duo of Kirsten Maitland and her husband, Fred Swar, Rebel Cheeses has carved its niche by crafting dairy-free, lactose-free, gluten-free, and animal-friendly cheeses that rival their traditional counterparts.

The Rebel Cheeses Philosophy

At the core of Rebel Cheeses is the commitment to crafting delectable, cruelty-free cheeses using plant-based ingredients. What sets them apart is not just their dedication to producing cheese without cholesterol but also their innovative use of nut milk as a primary ingredient. Kirsten Maitland, the CheeseMaster extraordinaire and co-owner, brings her unique background as an immigrant, US Navy veteran, and former tech consultant to the Rebel ethos.

The Rebel Cheeses Craftsmanship

Rebel Cheeses employs traditional cheesemaking methods like culturing and cave-aging but replaces animal milk with nut milk. This bold choice results in cheeses that not only mimic the flavors of traditional favorites but also come with the added benefits of being cholesterol-free and cruelty-free.

The cheeses are made in small batches, a testament to the commitment to quality and consistency. The hand-made process ensures meticulous attention at every step, from selecting ingredients to the final packaging. The cheeses are produced in a kitchen that processes gluten, soy, and tree nut products, emphasizing transparency about potential allergens.

A Symphony of Flavors

Rebel Cheeses boasts a diverse and mouth-watering lineup of flavors, ensuring there’s something for every palate. From the robust Smoked Cheddar to the velvety Brie, each cheese is a testament to Rebel’s dedication to creating a plant-based alternative that doesn’t compromise on taste or texture. Other tempting options include Sundried Tomato Fromage, Pepper Jack, Honee Pistachio Chèvre, Gruyere, Balsamic Fig & Walnut Fromage, Parmesan, Truffle Chèvre, Truffle Brie, Spanish Paprika Chèvre, Ash Chèvre, and Cinnamon Cognac Gjetost.

Conscious Ingredients

Rebel Cheeses goes the extra mile to ensure its products are not just delicious but also environmentally and socially responsible. The use of organic-certified and fair-trade ingredients underscores the brand’s commitment to the planet and its people. Whenever possible, they source locally, supporting regional farmers and contributing to the sustainability of local communities.

Handling and Storage

For those eager to savor the rebellious flavors of Rebel Cheeses, it’s important to note that all cheeses must be refrigerated and should only be removed from the refrigerator immediately before serving. With the cheeses made in a kitchen that processes gluten, soy, and tree nut products, Rebel emphasizes the need for careful handling to prevent cross-contamination.

Rebel Cheeses, founded by Kirsten Maitland and Fred Swar, is more than a dairy-free alternative—it’s a celebration of flavor, innovation, and conscientious living. As they continue to challenge the norms of cheesemaking, Rebel is proof that delectable, plant-powered cheeses can be as satisfying as their traditional counterparts. So, join the rebellion and experience the future of cheese—one cruelty-free, cholesterol-free bite at a time.

My Take on Rebel Cheeses

I LOVE cheese. My favorite is blueberry encrusted goat cheese from Aldi. I could eat it every day! I’ve tried vegan cheese before and it was very good. It didn’t look like Rebel Cheeses – their cheese looks delicious and I will try it.

Do Sharks Eat Cheese?

Lori invested in a vegan cheese business called Heidi Ho way back in season 6. The company shut down after a fairly successful run in December, 2022. Since Lori likes investing in businesses she’d use, I expect an offer from her. Mark will likely make an offer too since he’s big on healthy, vegan food options. It douesn’t hurt that the business is in Austin, TX either. As for the other Sharks, they could make offers too, but I expect either Mark or Lori (or both) to make offers here.
