Cricket Azima stepped into the Shark Tank in Season 16. She pitched her sweet venture, Cricket’s Candy Creations. This unique business combined edible treats with creative crafting.

Founder Cricket Azima used to be a culinary educator. She studied communications, political science, and food studies. Then she decided to start her own thing to make learning about healthy cooking exciting for kids.

In 2001, she started a company called The Creative Kitchen. Before that, she worked in places like the White House and a think tank. One thing led to another, she finally launched Cricket’s Candy Creations.

Would the Sharks be willing to invest in her yummy venture?

Cricket’s Candy Creations Pitch

Cricket Azima brought her little friends to pitch her delicious candy-craft business on Shark Tank. She called herself a “candy-preneur.” Her business offered both location-based entertainment and kits to take home. Your little ones (or you, no judgments here) could create interesting edible crafts that boasted both creativity and fun.

Online, they sold through their official website and Amazon. However, their physical location generated the most revenue at that time. It accounted for about 80%-90% of the total revenue.

They had sold 100,000 kits to date, which was over the span of one and a half years. In the stores, they had made $1.7 million worth of sales.

They also hosted parties and other events in their stores. These brought in about $500,000 worth of sales per year. On average, they hosted three parties every Saturday and Sunday.

At the time, they were working with their franchise agency. Their plan was to launch sales opportunities for franchises in January.

Since the business model was unclear, it confused Robert what exactly the entrepreneur was pitching on the show. He even said that, initially, he liked the idea, but the more the entrepreneur talked about it, the less he liked it.

The entrepreneur clarified that it was a brand overall. She revealed that her brand was solidified, but it was just her carrying the business on her own.

When Mark Cuban asked about her total sales from the previous month, she did not know offhand, which disappointed the sharks.

Did Cricket’s Candy Creations Get a Deal on Shark Tank?

Once, they discussed the business model, and the sharks shared their views:

  • Kevin found too many issues with the business. He even called it too small to make it a franchise.
  • Barbara was actually interested in the business. However, when they asked the entrepreneur what profit she made per year from the stores, she couldn’t answer. That disappointed her.
  • Robert said that this particular business needed to be small and focused right now. The entrepreneur was trying to run three different businesses together. For that reason, he did not invest.
  • Lori and Mark also didn’t like the fact that the entrepreneur didn’t know her numbers.
