Founder’s Backstory

Bette Bentley is an experienced comedy writer from Sherman Oaks, California, who worked with personalities like Will Ferrell. After experiencing discomfort while wearing traditional panties under the leggings, she explored different options in the market but wasn’t satisfied.

So she decided to develop her own patented Skimpies to solve this problem for women who do physically demanding activities, such as athletes and professional dancers.

What began as a part-time venture involving hand-cut Skimpies and weekly deliveries turned into a full-fledged business as women began to feel the product’s benefits.

Product Overview

Skimpies is a patented, organic, anti-plastic, breathable cotton liner with no waistband, designed for women.

It is comfortable for everything from light to intense physical activity because of its stay-in-place h3 adhesive that doesn’t curl up; instead, it moves with the body like underwear.

Skimpies Shark Tank Pitch

Bette Bentley came to Shark Tank with an ask of $250,000 for 3% equity in her company. She began the pitch by describing her struggles to experiment with different types of panties to wear under her leggings. At the same time, she answered Kevin O’Leary’s question, saying the product isn’t suitable for ‘that time of the month.’

Utilizing her comedy-writing background to create online content, she started selling the product in September 2024 and turbo-charged sales from just $6,000 in 2024 to about $570,000 in 2025.

After seeing the $25,000 price for the mold to get the appropriate Skimpies size, Bette resorted to cutting them by hand. But a few weeks later, she found a tumor in her left breast and had a double mastectomy.

While lying in the hospital bed, she decided to go all in and, with her husband, put down a $25,000 deposit to manufacture Skimpies.

Sharks were not only inspired by her resilience amid intense struggles, but also surprised by the handsome margins. The big box costs 50 cents per unit, including shipping, and is sold for $15.99.

The entrepreneur mentioned that the company projected $2,000,000 in sales in 2026 and would also sell Skimpies small-size packs at Walmart.

This further reeled in the Sharks, as the smaller packs cost 44 cents per unit, including shipping, and will be sold to Walmart at $3.22 each.

What Makes Skimpies Unique?

Skimpies is a skin-friendly undergarment brand that aims to provide women with comfort and confidence.

  • Comfort: The patented product is designed with comfort in mind, as it features high-quality materials. Additionally, it can be perfectly paired with leggings to perform even intense sports or physical exercise.

Did Skimpies Get a Deal on Shark Tank?

During the pitch, Bette revealed that the company had raised a seed round at the end of 2024 of $1,000,000 at an $8,000,000 valuation.

Kevin O’Leary instantly chimed in to offer $250,000 for 5% with a 50-cent royalty per unit sold in perpetuity.

Rashaun Williams said the entrepreneur doesn’t need to raise a bunch of money and offered $250,000 for 0% equity, but a 50-cent royalty until he gets 5 times his money back.

Amid multiple offers, Bette shared she needed a partner to help make Skimpies the next women’s essentials brand centered around cotton.

While Erin and Sara Foster were interested in investing, they made it clear that their skill sets would overlap and that she’d be better off with another Shark.

Lori Greiner also backed out after seeing competitive offers already on the table.

Barbara Corcoran was touched by the entrepreneur’s confidence and personality. She offered her $250,000 for 10% equity. Bcette explained that she couldn’t go that high because her existing investors would be hesitant to sign on at that level.

So she countered Barbara’s offer with the same amount for 6% equity, but Barbara made the final concession at 8% equity for $250,000.

While the founder was on the fence about the equity, Sara Foster shared candidly from her personal experience that if they didn’t give away 50% of the equity to start Favorite Daughter clothing brand, they wouldn’t be sitting as a Shark on the show.

Hearing that, Bette trusted her instincts and agreed to Barbara’s offer of $250,000 for 8% equity.
