Cereal Milk – Cow Wow

cereal milk cow wowCereal lovers will love Cow Wow’s pitch in episode 502 as they introduce “cereal milk” to guest Shark Steve Tisch and the rest of the investor panel. What is cereal milk you ask? It’s single serving, organic milk boxes, flavored like the milk left at the bottom of a cereal bowl. With flavors like Fruity Trudy, Chocolate Chip Cathy, Peanut Butter Bessie, and Cinny Minny, there’s sure to be a cereal milk flavor for every pallette.

Entrepreneurs Chris Pouy and Tiffany Panhilason have quite a tongue-in-cheek story about how they “discovered” cereal milk. Legend has it they ran out of feed for their cows and fed them cereal instead. When they milked the cows the next day, they had cereal milk! While the story is cute, it’s a bit far-fetched and they do it as a branding exercise. This “news” video explains the whole thing.

While the origins of Cow Wow cereal milk may not be exactly portrayed in the video, the Cow Wow folks have captured that bottom of the bowl flavor in their product. The question is, will they capture a Shark?

My Take on Cereal Milk

I like a bowl of cereal now and again for breakfast, but my kids have it every day. I certainly like that bottom of the bowl taste, but this product is for kids, and I bet they LOVE it. As a parent, anything I can do to get my kids to drink their milk is a good thing. We send the 9-year-old off to school every day with a milk box, so she’d be a good candidate for cereal milk.

Kids’ snacks and beverages is big business, that’s probably why Cow Wow is found in hundreds of Kroger, Ralph’s, Fred Meyer, Quality Food Center, Smith’s, Dillon Stores, Baker’s, King Soopers, City Market and Fry’s markets. You can also buy Cow Wow on Amazon.

I do all the food shopping in our household and Cow Wow is something I will buy when it’s in my market. I might even order some, since I don’t have to pay shipping with Amazon Prime. As the old saying goes: “milk does a body good.” Cereal milk is just another milk “delivery mechanism,” and a tasty one at that!

Do Sharks Drink Milk?

I have no idea how Steve Tisch will act on the panel, but chances are (if John Paul DeJoria’s segment is any indication), he’ll make at least one deal. Whether Tisch drinks the milk or not remains to be seen. Cow Wow is in a competitive business, but they gained quite a bit of shelf space since starting the business in 2012. The website has that “my business is going on Shark Tank” look to it, too. They must have some sales numbers, if they are good, they could field multiple offers.

Mr. Wonderful and his royalty offers are getting a bit tired, but I wouldn’t be surprised if he drops one on Cow Wow. Daymond doesn’t usually go for food products, so I think he’ll be out. Mark and Lori both invested in food products before, so if the deal is right and they like Chris and Tiffany, they could be bidders too. I am “IN,” with a case of  Chocolate Chip Cathy cereal milk!
